Biodiversity Baseline Survey for Al Maktoum International Airport
Project Details
• The two entities DAEP and the Dubai South aimed to conduct the biodiversity survey for some area falling within the jurisdiction of the area designated for Airport development where no development work has started yet.
• Tridel’s ecologists and taxonomists conducted the day and night surveys to assess the current ecological conditions along with identifying the potential habitats or species of importance specifically for five different taxonomic groups i.e. plants, mammals, reptiles, birds, insects.
• Recommendations were provided for conducting a more comprehensive terrestrial biodiversity survey in order to monitor the impact of development activities on one of the most endangered species in Arabia listed by IUCN i.e. Persian Wonder Gecko (Teratoscincus keyserlingii).
